Color laserjet 5500

we have a Color laserjet 5500. connected via a 615 network card. customer started getting this action... send the job ... the printer says its printing..... but nothing ever happens except the data light flashes. ok cancel job ...( it spools from the computer so its doesnt appear to be on the computer end ) .Change the network card to a known good. no difference. Event log yields a slew of 68 followed by 4 more hex digits.they are the last 6 entries. before that we see a ton of toner sensor errors 54.24... a couple of TOP OUTPUT BIN Paper late stop... errors...

ok so we start with the DC controller ... no change ... Actually here we start getting an error about the Magenta toner on the display... "need to order magenta cartridge" alternates now with Printing when you try to print.. ok replace the cartridge.... with another thats used but working in another printer just fine... no difference.. change the Toner sensor board ... no difference. Upgraded the firmware on the original formatter ... no change ... got a Brand new Magenta Toner for the machine ... now we start to print and get "printing".... then "Waiting for tray 2 to lift" alternating.....
this is getting altogether weird.
also with either DC controller ...No engine test print.
so we have... replaced the Dc controller now
changed the Formatter
replaced the NIC ( out of the picture altogether at this point)using the parallel port yielded no diff.
NEW firmware chip..
NEW Toner level sensor board....
did a COLD reset ..
NVRAM reset
through all this the printer now gets to calibrating then stops... open the door... to get the error about door open... then it goes Ready.
then the strange process starts over again.
im at a loss...

Color laserjet 5500 2

First off you seem to be doing a lot and getting nowhere. Lets try a logical approach but you will have to answer all questions. First turn off the printer and then use the instructions below to start the printer bypassing the calibration. Only have the power connected to the printer and no jetdirect card in the slot.

Calibration bypass
During certain diagnostic procedures, you will need to bypass the automatic calibration that
is performed whenever the printer is turned on.
To bypass calibration
1. Turn the printer on and watch the control panel display.
2. When the display begins showing the memory count, press and hold down arrow until all three lights on the control panel are lit.
3. Press up arrow.
4. Press PAUSE/RESUME. The display should show SKIP DISK LOAD.
5. Press until SKIP CALIBRATION is highlighted.
6. Press . The printer will skip calibration and then continue its power-on sequence.

When the printer comes to ready go to the diagnostics menu and choose disable cartridge check. You may have to select it twice. The printer should not try to calibrate. Now remove all toners and try to print a configuration page. Does it print a blank page? If it does put in the black toner and do a configruation page again. Does it print? If it does remove the black toner and put in the next color and do the test again. Do this for all 4 toners. If it fails for only one of the toner, that could be the issue, but to make sure put another toner in that toner's slot and try again. If it still fails then you ave a problem with that slot.
